I know you use the Raynox DCR-250 with you camera, but what else do you do to get up to this size with such enormous clarity??? (Feel free to note me if you would prefer - or of course, just don't tell me! ;))

It is my pleasure to answer your question Anna :)
My little camera gives me a zoom capacity of 18x .Not sure but this is the zoom capacity of a lens of 27-483 mm i think.
When i put the raynox dcr250 in front i get this size of magnification ;)

Ah I see - I did wonder if you were using digital zoom, but you're getting extraordinarily good results from it I have to say! If I try anything like that with my G11 they leave a lot to be desired as the jpeg quality just isn't so good for some reason!

Do you get much noise that needs dealing with? I do know it has a Leica lens - and it appears to be sold as an FZ38 now?

Yes it has Leica lens and this is great for panasonic.I only use the optic zoom for my photos.I have some noise but not so disturbing.I use "neat image" for geting rid of that noise for the best result :)

But the optic zoom is only x4.5 whereas mine is 5; I take all my shots with the Raynox at full zoom, but I don't get the sort of results you're getting for some reason? Occasionally I can show a shot cropped at 100% - the last few ladybug shots are all done that way, but I am normally very unsteady due to effort and pain when in awkward positions, so for me to be able to show at 100% is quite rare unfortunately, despite the image stabilisation.

What F No. does yours go up to? (Mine is only up to F8 which also really annoys me when I want more DOF!)

That's the same for me ,F8 :(
So i consantrate on the eyes, the head only, the rest could be blured.
My fz35's 18x optic zoom give a great advantage.I usually zoom all the way with raynox. For example %90 of those spiders are full frame ,only croped to fit in 16:10 for my monitor ratio to use as wallpapers :)
With 12megapixel ,4000x3000 pixel resolution is what i get.If i decrease the resolution settings i can get more optic zoom up to 30x zoom. But i never do it that way.

Well, today I did a little experiment based on what you've been saying (although you said earlier you don't use digital zoom, but optical? Optical zoom according to the write-up on this camera is up to 4.5x but digital is up to 18x beyond that. Mine goes up to 20x nerninerner :giggle:)

Anyway, I put mine into jpeg format (best) and tried all the various zooms both optical and digital plus my Raynox and absolutely none of my shots came out looking anywhere near good because of the terrible artifacts showing up in the jpegs themselves. Then I did what I normally do, and took the same shots again in RAW with no digital zoom, but at 5x optical (its maximum in this mode) plus Raynox plus 7 dioptres of closeup lenses. This brought me to the equivalent of the full digital zoom for magnification (or 2.3x) and the results were very good.

It seems my camera doesn't handle jpegs as well as it handles RAW? I'm taking it as read that you must be using jpeg format for the zoom ratios you're getting?

Looks like your camera might be superior to mine - in fact, does your camera shoot in RAW at all (I forgot to take note of that)? If not, this may well mean it is properly geared up for full jpeg shooting?

:D just after talking with you i tried to shoot in raw :D (i mean before this one :D)
In Raw format i couldnt get a real difference after i edit it in Lightroom3.But i am not sure of that as i am new on editing a raw file.May be raw will be the best (as always said) after i fully contol the file on an editor.I would like to send you an unedited jpg photo of a shot to examine the quality if you want?
